Linkener, a Valencia-based EnergyTech startup that digitises and optimises energy management for businesses through a platform combining consumption metering, data analytics and AI, has closed a €7.5 million funding round.
The round was led by Klima Energy Transition Fund, Alantra’s energy transition fund, with GoHub Ventures remaining a shareholder.
José Ignacio Ruiz, CEO of Linkener, said, “This funding round will allow us to accelerate the transformation of a highly fragmented sector, where energy management remains rooted in practices from 40 years ago. We want businesses to have reliable data and technology to understand how much they spend on energy, anticipate their costs and make better decisions.”
Founded in 2011, Linkener has developed an Intelligent Energy Management System (SIGE) with proprietary remote metering technology. It enables businesses and organisations to measure consumption using their own data, digitise and validate bills, analyse energy supply arrangements, and receive alerts, recommendations and savings proposals to help them reduce and control energy costs.
The company also has an engineering team that turns identified savings opportunities into practical projects and has delivered more than 400 solar PV and battery storage projects across Spain.
The Spanish startup reports that it serves more than 2,000 customers, ranging from self-employed professionals to large companies, and manages 10,000 energy supply points and 1.7 TWh annually.
According to Linkener, there is significant scope to digitise and optimise energy management in the services sector, where monitoring and controlling consumption can deliver 20% savings and more efficient cost management.
Iñigo Echaniz, Partner at Klima, Alantra’s energy transition fund, said, “Energy management for businesses and organisations remains a highly fragmented market with enormous potential for digitisation. Linkener combines proprietary technology, independent energy data and direct relationships with thousands of customers, creating a distinctive foundation on which to add further capabilities and solutions. Our investment aims to support the team in this next stage of growth, both organically and through acquisitions, with the goal of building a leading technology platform for energy management.”
With this investment, the company aims to accelerate the development of its technology and proprietary artificial intelligence models for energy management. The company aims to use AI and advanced data analytics to automate the processing of energy information and bills, detect anomalies, and identify opportunities for optimisation and savings for its customers.
It also revealed that through M&A, Linkener intends to add new products and companies that complement its existing business and broaden the solutions available to customers, strengthening its product, technology and commercial capabilities.
Through this transaction, Linkener aims to grow both organically and through acquisitions. According to Ruiz, the company seeks to bring, in his words, “transparency and results to the thousands of businesses and organisations that do not want to manage their energy solely through a monthly bill that is biased, incomplete and fails to provide the full picture.”
