Consumer service brand Urban Company’s net loss has widened 208% YoY to ₹182.5 Cr in the Q2 FY27 from ₹59.3 Cr loss incurred in the previous year quarter.
Sequentially, the company’s loss almost doubled from ₹92.1 Cr.
The company’s loss widened despite its quarterly operating revenue jumping 41% to ₹537.3 Cr from ₹380 in Q2 FY26. On a quarterly basis, the operating revenue remained largely flat compared with ₹528.3 Cr.
Including other income of ₹41.2 Cr, Urban Company recorded a total income of ₹578.5 Cr in the quarter.
Its total expenses also increased 61.5% to ₹745.7 Cr in the given period from ₹461.7 Cr in Q2 FY26. The surge in expense was primarily at the behest of increased investment in quick household help vertical, InstaHelp.
The company said its adjusted EBITDA loss for the quarter stood at ₹144 Cr, due to a “deliberate” ₹174 Cr investment in InstaHelp. “Adjusted EBITDA was ₹30 Cr, up 213% YoY, and ₹119 Cr over the past three quarters, up 175% YoY,” the company said.
The company also incurred a loss of ₹8.1 Cr from a joint venture and incurred a tax expense of ₹7.2 Cr in the quarter.
Alongside approving the financial statements, Urban Company’s board also approved a fund raise of ₹2,500 Cr via a preferential allotment or a private placement of equity shares.
The rationale behind this fundraise is to strengthen the leadership at InstaHelp, invest across its three major segments, and pursue potential inorganic opportunities, Urban Company said in its Q2 Shareholder’s letter.
“We now operate three businesses at scale, with proven economics across India Core, International and Native. We believe each can be significantly larger in the years ahead with adequate investment and high quality execution,” Urban Company added in the Q2 shareholder’s letter.
Urban Company’s Three Growth Engines
Urban Company is doubling down on three key growth areas: its core home services business, InstaHelp and Native, its in-house consumer appliances brand.
InstaHelp, its quick household help vertical, saw fulfilled orders jump 63% QoQ to 6.2 Mn, while net transaction value (NTV) rose 34% to ₹71 Cr. The increase in orders also led to a
Operating revenue increased to ₹20.5 Cr from ₹1.4 Cr in the year-ago quarter, but adjusted EBITDA loss of the vertical widened to ₹174 Cr from ₹132 Cr. The company bled ₹279 per order, a 19% improvement from ₹346 loss incurred per order in the previous quarter.
Urban Company said it would continue investing in InstaHelp to establish market leadership. The service now accounts for around 45% of new users in micro-markets where it operates alongside the company’s core services.
Meanwhile, Urban Company’s India consumer services business, excluding InstaHelp, reported 26.3% YoY growth in NTV to ₹963 Cr and a 28% rise in net revenue to ₹336 Cr. Its international operations in the UAE and Singapore also remained profitable, with NTV rising 66% YoY to ₹267 Cr.
Native recorded 35% YoY growth in NTV to ₹132 Cr, while operating revenue rose 40% to ₹105 Cr. Its adjusted EBITDA loss remained at ₹9 Cr, but the loss margin narrowed to 6.8% of NTV from 9% a year ago.
The company expects Native’s NTV to grow 50-55% on a combined Q2 and Q3 basis, factoring in the shift in festive demand to Q3.
“Growth was healthy but understated by timing: the festive season this year has shifted entirely to Q3, and major ecommerce sale events, which took place in Q2 last fiscal year, have moved to Q3 this fiscal year. It is therefore more meaningful to assess Native across the two quarters together. We expect combined Q2 + Q3 FY27 NTV growth of 50-55% YoY,” the shareholders’ letter said.
Urban Company To Foray Into AC Category
Besides the financials and the fundraise plans, Urban Company’s board also gave an in-principle approval to a plan to explore residential air conditioners as a new line of business under the Native segment.
In its disclosures, the company said that this category represents a large market in which it already services millions of units annually and has accrued first-hand insights into the existing product gaps and customer needs. However, it plans to launch in the category only if it could offer a product that is materially better than existing options.
Native’s current priorities remain water purifiers and smart locks, with the company expecting to add at most one new category over time.
The company said that it evaluates potential categories based on four factors: the importance of servicing over the product’s lifetime, an unresolved consumer problem that better design can address, a sizeable profit pool with attractive premium margins, and the ability to sell, install and service the product through the Urban Company app using its own service partners.
Urban Company said residential ACs fit these criteria. However, Inc42 had learnt about the potential entry into the category earlier in 2025. As per sources close to the company, its own line of ACs were likely to be launched by early 2026
Shares of Urban Company closed today’s trading session 2.63% higher at ₹158.3 apiece on the BSE.
