Manufacturing Startup ThinkMetal Raises ₹27 Cr To Initiate Commercialisation

Manufacturing startup ThinkMetal has raised ₹27 Cr (around $2.8 Mn) in a funding round led by India Angel Network’s VC fund IAN Alpha Fund. Other investors, including deeptech focused VC 3i Partners, among others, also participated in the round.

The fresh funding will help ThinkMetal in developing its product stack, expand the type of materials it utilises as well as strengthening its R&D capabilities. The Chennai-based metal additive manufacturing startup is also looking to fuel its hiring with the fresh capital.

“This investment is an important step in ThinkMetal’s journey from technology development towards commercialisation. We’ll use this capital to strengthen our product development, expand our team and materials capabilities and accelerate adoption across industrial applications,” cofounder and CEO Sabyasachi Ghosh said.

Founded in 2021 by Ghosh and Arushi Sharma (CTO),ThinkMetal is a Chennai-based metal additive manufacturing startup that builds industrial printing systems that can manufacture tools such as moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures.

Its SistemT1 machine uses metal fused additive manufacturing to build components layer by layer from wound metal feedstock. The process is followed by debinding and sintering to achieve the required strength.

The hardware works alongside the startup’s proprietary FuseX materials and Thinkware software. ThinkMetal claims its system can produce metal parts up to 10X faster and at half the cost of conventional manufacturing methods.

Its customers include Ants Ceramics, ZeQube Technologies and Hosur CNC, while its components serve applications across the automotive, aerospace and defence sectors.

Prior to this round, ThinkMetal  raised around $1.1 Mn from YourNest Venture Capital to scale production of its first-generation system.

The startup operates in India’s additive manufacturing market, which is projected to grow from $677.4 Mn in 2023 to $3.75 Bn by 2030.

The funding comes at a time when the need for deeptech-focus manufacturing firms is rapidly escalating, with the sector attracting a significant interest from institutional investors in recent times.

As per Inc42’s ‘Indian Tech Startup Funding Report, Q3 2026’, deeptech startups raised $290 Mn across 28 deals, a 2.8X jump from $105 Mn across 29 deals in Q3 2025.

Hence, startups in the deeptech manufacturing domain are emerging and also getting significant traction from VCs. For instance, Ethereal Machines recently raised $28.5 Mn in its Series B funding round led by Avataar Ventures to  build a 3 Lakh sq ft mega-factory near Bengaluru.

Similarly, companies like Fledgetec System also develop custom-built components, assemblies, and engineering solutions for the aerospace, defence, industrial, and specialised technology sectors.
